                        Challenges

The combination of visual impairment and auditory impairment creates a more challenging disability than either of these conditions present alone.

Consider these challenges commonly faced by deaf-blind individuals:
                        • Increased situations in which they have to depend on others in order to feel safe and informed
                        • Learning and using alternative communication strategies
                        • Becoming aware of and navigating their physical surroundings
                        • Finding social, living, and employment situations that fit their individual talents, needs, and aspirations
                        • Attitudinal barriers that complicate their interactions with non-deaf-blind people
                        • Feelings of isolation and loneliness due to limitations in communication and mobility

Two of the most difficult challenges faced by the deaf-blind today are:
                        • Obtaining adequate amounts of Individual Support Services Provision to access the community
                        • Obtaining available Assistive Technologies to access information

You can help alleviate some of these challenges by supporting AzADB.
